Disputes Overshadow New Jersey Medical Marijuana Deadline
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Monday marks the deadline for groups to apply to grow and sell medical marijuana legally in New Jersey, but there may not be a rush of applicants.
Prospective licensees and advocates say the issue is complicated by the rules and regulations being set up. They say the state proposed rules are so restrictive that their operations might not be viable.
Even though the rules aren't finalized, the state is moving ahead with its application deadline. On top of that, the Legislature is considering forcing a rewrite of the proposed regulations.
With all the uncertainty, some groups that want to provide pot are reluctant to pay the $20,000 application fee.
One group has gone to court to try to get the deadline pushed back.
