Discussing Gay Marriage From Either Side Of The Aisle
By Special Contributor Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear two cases on same sex marriage. And the debate has heightened.
Understanding the issue is very important. Sam Rohrer, President of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network opposes same sex marriage. He says that it's really a spiritual decision based on religions teachings focused on male-female marriages.
"That is the strongest framework for the building of a community; the best for children. The research is very clear on that. So the weakening of that it goes beyond whether or not an opinion rises or changes according to time."
Listen to extended interview:
Kermit Roosevelt, a constitutional professor at the University of Pennsylvania, says the court will have a partial ruling not a definitive yes or no on same sex marriage.
"They're going to say narrowly pro gay rights in both cases as narrow as they can. I'm pretty sure they're not going to say there's a fundamental Constitutional right that applies nationwide in every state," said Roosevelt.
