Disabled SEPTA Train Strands Passengers
By Al Novack, Steve Beck
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There were major delays Tuesday morning on the SEPTA Market-Frankford El line as a train became disabled.
The four-car westbound train became disabled on the tracks at about 7:15 a.m. near the Erie-Torresdale stop.
At about 8:50 a.m., SEPTA officials brought a functional train along the tracks and passengers were safely escorted from the disabled train onto the working train.
The Philadelphia Fire Department was called to scene to assist in the situation. The reason the Fire Department was brought to the scene was to ensure the safety of the El passengers and to make sure they didn't contact dangerous electrified rails.
SEPTA officials said a mechanical issue caused the train to become disabled.
At the height of the situation, there were 20 minute delays on the Market-Frankford line.
