Diplomatic Pressures May Force President's Hand On Libya
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The fighting continues in Libya, but several fast-moving developments may have an impact in the coming days.
So here's where it stands: Britain and France are readying a no-fly zone option for the UN over Libya. NATO has increased its surveillance flights over Moammar Gadhafi's territory, a sign of possible military action.
The rebel forces have said publicly that they can handle Gadhafi's army on the ground, but his air force has a chance to disable their efforts. The President says that military options are still on the table for the US and its allies. Senator John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, again called for a no-fly zone.
The Republican opposition has been quiet about the Presidents options, but if Gadhafi makes more gains, that will ramp up. So the question remains: is there something in the works? One thing is for sure: the diplomatic language is escalating.
