Dining Charge For Peak Hours Being Considered In New York City
NEW YORK, NY (CBS) – First it was the airlines, then hotels. Now, one city is considering tacking fees onto dining out.
According to CBS 2, New York City diners might be paying more just to be seated during peak times. That means between about 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., or on Saturday nights, for example.
But will diners be willing to shell out more for primetime service?
"I would pay more because Saturday night is a night out," Michel Parempe of Manhattan is quoted as saying.
However, others expressed the opposite sentiment.
"It makes no sense to pay more for food to eat in a crowded restaurant," James Roditi said to CBS 2.
Restaurants seem to be open to the idea. The article sites the much touted Le Cirque as one place that is already considering the up-charge.
