Details Still Sketchy on Twitter's New Music-Community App

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CBS) -- Less than a week after acquiring the music startup called "We Are Hunted," Twitter is giving its more than 200 million users something new to tweet about.
After weeks of rumors, Twitter quietly started a limited rollout of a new music feature that is expected to use the listening habits of users' friends and contacts to recommend music.
"There's a lot of popular (music) apps out right now: Spotify, Radio, LastFM have been around forever," says Lou Perseghin, client service manager for Philadelphia-based social media marketing agency ChatterBlast, "but Twitter has a unique advantage because they have the ability to identify trends. You hear about 'trending' topics all the time."
But what form the Twitter music service will take is unclear.
"They'll probably have the ability to follow other users, follow other artists, to have charts sort of like the Billboard chart but in real time, and also just being able to sit online and browse through on that platform and tweet out things you're interested in, and purchase songs," Perseghin predicts.
For now, the Twitter music app is "invite only," but it's expected to launch soon.
