Despite The Storm, Many Philadelphia Restaurants And Bars Are Open For Business

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With many residents cooped up inside and waiting out the storm, hurricane-induced hunger is bound to set in.
Dangerous winds and heavy rain are falling, and the city is shutdown for an historic storm. But that hasn't stopped some bars and eateries from opening up for business. At McGillin's, owner Chris Mullins says they'll be open as long as it's safe to serve guests, many of whom are emergency crews on standby or guests stuck in hotels.
"They've got to be there. They've got to make sure the pumps are going, the water's on, the heat's on or whatever. The Army Corps of Engineers is around the corner. There's emergency workers there so, you know; it's a place for people to come," Mullins explains.
McGillin's is even serving $3 Hurricane Sandy drink specials. But safety is still Mullins' mind, and the bar's employees have hotel rooms so they don't have to travel far.
"We've been open since 1860. That includes the Civil War, Prohibition, the Depression...We never close," Mullins says, adding that they're ready for Sandy and taking it all in stride.
Of course, residents are encouraged to stay safe and inside, so that might mean sticking to take-out. Philadelphia residents can find restaurants delivering food in their neighborhood by checking out Seamless.com. The Internet food delivery service is updating their blog with information on establishments that are still operating and offering delivery options to those that are waiting out the storm in the area.
