Despite Success, Flyers Flying Under Many Fans' Radar

VOORHEES, NJ (CBS) - The Flyers are in first place in the NHL Eastern Conference, but has the team been able to create a buzz yet among local sports fans?

Too often, it seems, the Flyers seem to fly in the vast shadow of the Eagles and the Phillies.

Is anyone outside the Flyers' immediate fan base paying attention?

We asked some casual fans watching the team practice in Voorhees if they could name three Flyers team members.

"Darryl Powe, Mike Richards, and...um...oh, man... Chris Pronger!"

Longtime Flyers beat writer Tim Panaccio says that, based on Internet traffic and the number of e-mails he receives every day, there's been a pretty big buzz about the Flyers from the first day of training camp. He says it all goes back to that incredible playoff run last spring.

And strap yourself in, says Panaccio, because the postseason is right around the corner.

"Playoffs start in April.  The Phillies will just be getting going in April. April, May, and June will belong the Flyers if they go deep. And I fully expect this team to go deep. This is the best team I've ever covered in all the years I've been around," he says.
