Despite Management Change, Phila. Traffic Court Will Still Operate at 800 Spring Garden St.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Even though the operations of Philadelphia's Traffic Court have been taken over by Municipal Court, the Traffic Court building is remaining open for business.
On Wednesday, Gov. Corbett signed a bill making Traffic Court a division of Municipal Court (see related story), but Amy Kelchner, a spokeswoman for the state court system, is clarifying that going forward the Traffic Court building at 800 Spring Garden Street will still be the place to go.
"Physically, traffic violations are still handled in the same place, but the operation is being absorbed into a new court. So, for the consumer, they will still go to 800 Spring Garden for the resolution of their fines, or for their hearings, or whatever," she tells KYW Newsradio.
Given the problems with alleged corruption at Traffic Court, district judges from surrounding counties have been helping to run traffic proceedings. And that practice will continue until Municipal Court can hire and train hearing officers.
Kelchner says there is, for now, no plan to move the Traffic Division of Municipal Court out of the Spring Garden Street location.
