Desire To Help Others Is At The Heart Of Philadelphia Therapist

Where did you get your degree?
"I received my master's degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College."
Can you describe your duties as a psychologist?
"I would describe my title of a psychotherapist as providing a space for clients to discuss all thoughts and feelings that are causing distress - including, but not limited to: relationship issues, substance abuse problems, and any other problems in daily functioning due to emotional pain. I work with individuals, couples, and families."
How has education prepared you for your career in psychology and social sciences?
"Most individuals who decide to study psychology already have a passion for helping others. There's an old, but somewhat true, joke that one chooses to be a psychologist or therapist to figure out oneself or their family members. Education gives us the theories and techniques to practice what is already in our hearts - a desire to help others, and ourselves, heal from emotional pain and suffering."
What advice would you give someone who is pursuing a career in psychology?
"If you are studying psychology as an undergraduate, understand that you will need to further your education with a graduate or doctorate degree. If you are a master's level student, think about the population you want to work with and where you envision yourself working. For example, do you want to work primarily with children or adults? Do you want to work in a hospital setting or a prison? Do you want to have a private practice one day? This will help you to choose an internship or practicum site where you will put all those classroom hours to work."
