Demonstrations Held Throughout Area Protesting U.S. Intervention In Syria
By Dan Wing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A number of demonstrations were held throughout the area Saturday, to protest U.S. Military Intervention in Syria.
The late afternoon rally was organized by the Coalition for Peace Action and a number of other activist groups from the area.
David works with the Coalition for Peace Action, and says U.S. intervention would violate international law:
"The way international law says you can intervene for two reasons: Self-Defense, and there's no way this issue affects the United States at all directly. Or approval by the UN Security Council, and so far Obama's not been willing to go before the UN."
Ron Whitehorn is a former teacher, who says he would rather see the U.S. invest in education here at home:
"This country is a wealthy country, but it's spending it's money on military, on foreign adventures to prop up corporate interests abroad. In the Middle East, all it's about is oil."
The group encourages anyone who opposes military action Syria to sign an online petition at peacecoalition.org.
