Delco Theater Program Awarding Scholarships To Foster Kids In Memory Of Past Participant
By John McDevitt
UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) - In memory of a performer and staff member of Upper Darby Summer Stage, a scholarship program has been created for foster kids.
The program is called "T's Kids" named after Terrance Calvert of Drexel Hill. Terrance spent much of his life in foster homes until he was adopted. He died at the age of 22 of kidney cancer a year ago.
"Many of his friends throughout the years when he was sick and since that time have raised money," Spokeswoman for Upper Darby Summer Stage Lauren Yacina said. "And the money that is raised for 'T's Kids' goes into a fund to support scholarships for kids in foster care."
Yancina says Terrance's life wasn't easy and he found himself through the arts.
Terrance had this to say at a performance a couple of years ago to raise money for his medial bills:
"I know that the work that I have done with you guys will live on past myself and that means more than anything in the world."
Applications to the program are being accepted now. For more information visit udpac.org.
