Delco SPCA: Cat Beaten Against Guard Rail In Darby Borough
DARBY, Pa., (CBS) -- The Delco SPCA says they are caring for a cat that was allegedly beaten against the guard rail of the Pine Street Bridge in Darby Borough on Sunday.
Humane Society Police Officer Ron Riggle said after allegedly beating the cat against the guard rail, the suspect, an 11-year-old boy, attempted to throw it into the river.
"Fortunately, he missed the river and the cat was able to scurry away to safety," Riggle said in a release Monday.
According to the Delco SPCA, two Good Samaritans saw the incident as they were driving by. Authorities were alerted and the cat was able to be saved.
Riggle rushed the cat to an emergency facility where she received a full-body scan.
"Darby," the one-year-old female brown tabby, is now in the care of the Delco SPCA. She initially showed trouble walking, but is now recovering steadily.
Based on witness reports, the cat was often seen walking in the neighborhood of the incident.
The Delco SPCA plans to pursue animal cruelty charges against the minor.
The cat will be held at the Delco SPCA as the investigation continues.
