Delaware With Tough Trip To Maine On Tap
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Another tough CAA match-up is on tap for Delaware on Saturday as they travel to Maine to visit the #23 Black Bears on Saturday.
The Blue Hens are now 4-1 on the season (1-0 in the CAA) and ranked as high as #24 in the country after an impressive come-from-behind victory over then #14 James Madison last weekend, 29-22.
Delaware trailed 19-7 at the half against the Dukes.
"We didn't play very well in the beginning of the game," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "Made a mistake on the first play (interception), but came out, played great defense and held them to a field goal. Really battled the whole first half. We didn't play particularly sharp, (but) played well on defense and kind of kept us in the game."
But Brock says his team turned it around after they emerged from the locker room at the break.
Dave Brock Interview
"I was proud of the players," Brock says. "They didn't panic. They went in, they listened. They knew what we had to fix and how we had to play. Then we went out and we played a really, really, good half of football in the second half and ended up outscoring them 22-3. It was a total team win."
Maine is 4-1 and that lone loss came against FBS Northwestern. Even in that match-up, the Black Bears only lost 35-21. Last week, Maine went into Richmond and picked up a 28-21 victory.
"They kind of have the same package every year," Brock says of Maine. "They are really, really, physical, tough kids. They play exceptionally hard all the time. They don't let the circumstances of the game affect them. So when they are up, they are playing the same way, when they are trailing, they are playing the same way. They are very resilient."
Last year, Delaware lost to Maine in Newark, 26-3.
This year's match-up in Orono will kick-off at 3:30pm on Saturday.
