Delaware School Bus Crash Injures 32 Students

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) -- A school bus flipped onto its side in New Castle, injuring dozens of students although none appear to have life-threatening injuries.

The school bus was transporting 47 Pencader Charter High School students Wednesday morning. They range in age from 14 to 18.

Delaware River and Bay Authority spokesman Master Cpl. Joseph DiStefano says 32 students were injured, as well as a school aide. All were taken to Christiana Hospital. The school bus driver was not injured.

The bus flipped onto its side shortly after 7 a.m. on the ramp from I-295 to Route 9. No other vehicles were involved.

DiStefano says an initial investigation reveals the driver may have been going too fast around a sharp curve in the road. The suggested speed is 25 miles per hour.
