Delaware Man Arrested In Connection With 7-Month-Old Baby's Death
HARRINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Delaware Police have arrested James Hammond in connection with the death of a 7-month-old baby.
On February 27, James Hammond, 44, of Harrington, was taking care of the baby girl when she allegedly fell to the floor from a crib. He did not take her to receive medical attention until the following day.
Around 6:21 p.m. the next day, Hammond and the baby's aunt brought the infant to the hospital because she was unresponsive. Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at 7:29 p.m.
Detectives were informed that baby Aubri had been in the care of her aunt and Hammond since Tuesday, February 25 while her parents were on vacation.
Hammond was watching her alone when it was alleged that she had fallen.
An autopsy was performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who ruled the manner of death to be a homicide by blunt force trauma.
Delaware State Police arrested Hammond Friday morning after he turned himself in to detectives.
He committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $100,000 secured bond.
