NEWARK, Del. (AP) -- Newark police say an officer was injured when a handgun accidently discharged after firearms training at police headquarters.
It happened about 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police say one officer noticed what he thought was an abnormality on his handgun. That officer gave the weapon to a second officer to inspect it.
Police say the handgun fired and struck the first officer in the lower leg.
The officer was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
The officer handling the weapon when it discharged was placed on administrative duty while the incident is investigated.
