Delaware Man Arrested For Carjacking, Possession Of Drugs

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - New Castle Police have arrested a 24-year-old man after he reportedly harassed a woman and then stole her vehicle following a car accident Saturday morning.

Todd Colvard of Wilmington was taken into custody a little before 9 a.m. after police responded to a carjacking at a Wawa convenience store on Foulk and Wilson Roads.

Police learned that about an hour before, Colvard's girlfriend was involved in a car accident with another female driver on Fairfax Blvd.

When Colvard arrived at the scene to assist his girlfriend, he began to yell at the other driver, police say. After the driver exchanged information with Colvard's girlfriend, she drove away, but Colvard followed the driver to the Wawa store.

When the driver and a friend exited the store, Colvard tried to stop them from driving off. The woman drove around Colvard, but according to police, Colvard followed the car, opened the rear door, and entered the vehicle.

According to police, Colvard began yelling at the woman as she tried to get him out of the car. At that time, her friend called the police. Colvard got out of the car and began to run after it to a nearby parking lot. Police say he then smashed the driver's side window, reached into the car, and grabbed the keys.

Delaware State Police arrived shortly after that and upon searching Colvard, they found bags of heroin, cocaine, morphine pills, opana pills, and oxycodone pills. He is being charged with carjacking, robbery, and felony drug offenses.
