Delaware Man Arrested After Returning To Scene Of The Crime

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware man who tried to push his luck with officers by returning to the scene of a crime he'd committed earlier that day wound up in handcuffs on Sunday.
On September 16 around 3:24 a.m., Wilmington officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of E. 25th and Carter Streets.
Two of the officers observed a man leaving the area and stopped him in the 300 block of E. 25th Street. The man didn't have a weapon on him and was released.
During an investigation of the location where shots were thought to have been fired, police located shell casings on the ground and began collecting them as evidence. While they were doing so, the man that police had stopped and released earlier returned to the scene and began to ask the officers about evidence collection procedures and other investigative methods.
While the man was questioning the police officers, another officer reviewed surveillance footage of the area, which showed the suspect stop at the corner of E. 25th Street and N. Carter Street and fire a handgun into the air. The suspect then walked east on 25th Street, where he was seen on camera being stopped by officers.
The suspect, Michael Shivers, a 30-year-old from New Castle, was taken into custody by the officers, who rechecked the area where he'd originally been stopped by police and discovered a loaded 9mm handgun on the ground.
Shivers is currently on probation and is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to previous weapons convictions. Charges against him are pending.
