Delaware Juveniles Arrested After 15 School Buses Damaged
NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Police say three juveniles were arrested and charged with damaging 15 school buses Sunday evening in New Castle.
According to Delaware State Police, three boys between the ages 11 and 13-years-old vandalized 15 school buses, causing an estimated $22,500 in damage.
At approximately 6:20 p.m., Troopers were alerted of reports of three suspects driving and crashing school buses inside the Advanced Student Transport bus lot.
When Troopers arrived on scene, they observed several school buses moving and saw three boys exit the vehicles and flee on foot towards the Holloway Terrace development.
Area residents who witnessed the event gave suspect descriptions to the Troopers and all three boys were later located in the Simonds Gardens area.
Further investigations determined that the juveniles had entered the secured lot and accessed a total of eight buses that appeared to have been driven throughout the bus lot. Damage indicated that the buses had struck fences, destroyed a "port a potty" and struck seven additional buses.
The juveniles were charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Tampering With Physical Evidence, Conspiracy Second Degree, Criminal Mischief over $1,000 and Criminal Trespass Third Degree. The boys were released pending Family Court hearings.
