Delaware Homeowner Apprehends Burglary Suspect
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) - Police in Delaware arrested a burglary suspect with the help of the targeted homeowner on Sunday.
Twenty-four-year-old Richard Flemming of York Haven, Pennsylvania was caught allegedly breaking into the Newark home of a 47-year-old man at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Police say the victim woke up to his dogs barking and upon investigation, discovered Flemming in his Woodlawn Avenue home. Police say Flemming fled the home after making his way in through the window. The owner chased Flemming before detaining him in the roadway. Police were notified and arrested Flemming who is charged with second degree burglary, criminal mischief and attempted theft.
Flemming was released on $5,600 unsecured bail and ordered not to have contact with the homeowner.
Shortly after his release, police say an unidentified associate of Flemming reportedly visited the homeowner at his home, claiming that Flemming wanted to apologize for the incident. After asking the person to leave, Flemming was seen in the area picking the person up.
This was a violation of Flemming's release and therefore an additional warrant is on file for Flemming for Breach of Release.
