As Delaware County Struggles To Clean Up, PPL Park Opens As Shelter For First Responders
BROOKHAVEN, Pa. (CBS) – The storms have long since moved out of the area, but the cleanup is going to take some time in Delaware County.
County leaders are having a tough time keeping up with the response.
The entire county remains in a state of emergency, with a little more than 24,000 customers still without power.
At the height of the storm, there were more than 100,000 without power in the County, so PECO is making progress, but the utility company says the lights could stay out until Friday.
On Thursday, the borough hall in Brookhaven will serve breakfast to those without electricity. The shelter is providing three meals a day until the power is restored.
"We have opened up the shelter here for our residents," says Denise Leslie, Brookhaven councilwoman. "We serve them food, they have shelter, they want to charge their phones -- we're here for them."
The Philadelphia Union will also open PPL Park as a shelter for first responders at 11 a.m. Thursday.
"Everybody just pulls together, and we just help one another here," Leslie says.
