Delaware County Police Investigate Attempted Luring Of Two 9-Year-Old Boys
RIDLEY PARK, Pa. (CBS) -- Police in Delaware County are investigating the attempted abduction of two 9-year-old boys.
One of the boys spoke exclusively to Eyewitness News.
"I just think he's a sick person and when I go to bed, I pray for him to get better."
For his safety, we are not identifying the victim.
"I was weirded out a little bit and I felt weird in the stomach but I wasn't scared."
According to police, it happened Thursday just before 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We're told the two boys were walking home from school when a man parked on the 200 block of East Hinkley Avenue got the boys' attention.
"He tells me and my other friend that I'm walking home with to get in his car. We didn't talk to him at all. We just ran home and then we got in the door and told my mom and dad what happened."
Chief Tom Byrne with the Ridley Park Police Department said, "These kids did exactly what all kids should do. They did not go over to the car so they did not give him an opportunity to grab anybody and they took off."
In addition to stepping up patrols in the neighborhood, Ridley Park Police notified neighboring agencies to be on the lookout. Police also released a composite sketch of the suspect to ask the public for their assistance.
"I really just hope he gets caught and learns his lesson," the boy said.
Chief Byrne added, "We're concerned because first of all, things like this generally don't happen around here and we want to find out what this guy was up to. I don't know what his intent was and we don't want this to happen again."
The victims told police the suspect appeared to be a black male in his early 30s with a beard and at the time, driving a teal-colored Chevy Cavelier.
Anyone with information is asked to call Ridley Park Police at (610) 362-7401 or dial 911.
