Suspect In Police Dragging Held On $1 Million Cash Bail
CLIFTON HEIGHTS (CBS) -- A 26-year-old police officer is in serious, but stable, condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after stopping a suspicious vehicle in Clifton Heights, Delaware County on Friday afternoon.
The Delaware County District Attorney's office says charges have been filed against a man suspected of dragging a police officer during a traffic stop in Clifton Heights.
20-year-old Terry Davis, from the 6100 block of Callowhill Street in Philadelphia, is being held on one million dollars cash bail, charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, eluding police and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. Drugs, believed to be heroin, were found in the car after he was taken into custody.
The officer, 26-year-old Kevin Schieler, is recovering at Pennsylvania Hospital and is in serious condition, though his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
"The suspect operating the motor vehicle attempted to drive off as Officer Schieler was in contact with the vehicle. Officer Schieler suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries. At this point it appears that he may have been dragged," DA Mike Green says.
Officer Kevin Schieler has been a part-time officer with the Clifton Heights police department since 2006. He is also a full-time officer for the Chester City Police Department. Delaware Couty District Attorney Mike Green says that Officer Schieler stopped a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the K-Mart on Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights and approached the vehicle.
