Delaware County Judge Rejects Appeal In 1996 Murder Case

DELAWARE COUNTY (CBS) - A judge in Delaware County on Tuesday rejected an appeal by Arthur Bomar, convicted of killing college lacrosse player Aimee Willard in 1996.
Arthur Bomar has been on death row since 1998. He was convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering 22-year-old Aimee Willard in 1996. Willard was a George Mason University lacrosse star at the time, her father a Chester Police officer.
Bomar had appealed, alleging ineffective representation, court errors among other issues. But Judge Frank Hazel, through a 213 page opinion, rejected the appeal, "which will make it much more difficult for Mr. Bomar or his attorneys to have any opportunity to revisit those issues or have success at any subsequent either state or federal court proceeding," said Delaware County Assistant District Attorney Bill Toal.
And Toal says this stands on the side of justice.
"It's not the end of the line but it's a step towards bringing to the conclusion, this case and to carrying out the jury's verdict from 14 years ago."
