Delaware County Urges Residents To Donate And Take Part In Annual Mitten Tree Campaign
MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) - Helping youngsters in need get through the winter is the aim of the 14th annual Mitten Tree campaign in the Delaware County courthouse in Media. And for the second year in a row, you're being invited to take part.
What started with staffers in the Sheriff's office in Media has become a big deal among county workers. The names of those who donate are written on paper mittens and placed on a tree in the courthouse lobby. The sheriff's spokesman, John McCann, spoke on what they're looking for.
"Primarily hats, scarves, gloves - sometimes coats come in, but things of that nature," said McCann.
Your name can go up on the tree if you drop one or more of those items off at the sheriff's office. Make sure you tag the donation with a name and address if you want recognition. This year's donations will go to the county's Community Action Agency. They coordinate emergency and transitional housing for families in need. The campaign will continue through early January.
