Delaware County Child Abuse Support Group Launches Website

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Delaware County non-profit launches a new resource designed to help people prevent and treat victims of child sex abuse.

The new website, www.familysupportline.org, provides detailed information on the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse in children, like bed wetting, sexual play with toys and other odd behaviors. Executive Director Patricia Kosiniski says the site also focuses on prevention:

"Parents can go to find out how to talk to their children about being safe. It's a tough subject that a lot of people don't want to think about doing. And we help give parents the words and tools and things to say."

Kosinski says teens can also find out information on how to deal with harassment, who they can call and what they can do to stay safe. There's also tools for individuals who have been abused.

"We look at recovering, about what it means to talk about this, about what it means to go to therapy. Hopefully people will get over some of the fear about how hard it is to do."

Kosinski says sexual abuse with the right resources, sexual abuse can be prevented.
