Delaware Avenue Car Robbery Has Police Issuing A Warning To Female Drivers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With warm weather and the summer party season now underway, Philadelphia police are warning women--particularly those who are alone--to keep their cars secured. The warning comes after a 25-year-old driver was victimized near Delaware Avenue and Spring Garden Street by a robber who burst into her unlocked car as she waited at a traffic light.
The robber, who claimed he had a gun in his bag, forced the victim to drive to a nearby gas station. He can then be seen on video marching the woman to an ATM, where he demanded that she withdraw cash. When the ATM wouldn't work, the victim was taken back to her car and forced to drive to another ATM a few blocks north. There, she removed $60 in cash, and the robber took the money and ran.

Police say the victim was not hurt, and the woman's decision to cooperate may have helped to save her from injury.
Investigators hope someone can identify the male, who is described as thin and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. Police believe he may live in a nearby neighborhood.
They say the robbery, which took place in the busy waterfront club district, is an important reminder to be aware of your surroundings and to keep your car doors locked.
