Person Struck, Killed By Amtrak Train In Delaware Causes Delays On Thanksgiving Eve
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) -- A person struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Newark, Delaware, Wednesday afternoon, caused massive delays on the railways into the night on Thanksgiving Eve.
CBS 3's Alexandria Hoff reports that from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., all trains operating through Delaware were set to a standstill after a trespasser was struck and killed by an Amtrak regional rail train in Wilmington.
That line was restored but the backlog meant wait times persisted throughout the already congested holiday evening.
Amtrak service was temporarily suspended but resumed between Wilmington and Newark.
Patrick McDonnell, who was waiting at 30th Street Station, is now more ready then ever for a low key thanksgiving.
"We are just staying local and if I have to travel any further than whole foods I'm going to be upset,"
Some passengers have been trying to switch trains.
"I'm doing the best I can to stay happy," said commuter Ben Viola.
The person who was hit by the train has not yet been identified.
There were no injuries to the 519 passengers on board the train at the time.
