Debris, Power Outages Continue To Plague Atlantic County

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A huge clean-up and repair effort is underway in South Jersey particularly Atlantic county following Friday's violent storm and there is progress reported as of Sunday morning, according to overnight repair crews.
Atlantic Electric says the number of outages is decreasing overall but at times showing slight elevations because of new outages being discovered or circuits being shutdown to allow for additional repairs.
As of early Sunday morning outages actually went up slightly to 115,000 but are now back done to approximately 11,000. One resident painted a picture in the coastal corridor near the shore that looked like a war zone.
People in Atlantic County are still being urged by county emergency management to stay off the roads in the storm ravaged areas.
Governor Christie has brought in the National Guard to assist local crews with the giant clean-up.
New Jersey Transit is still reporting over an hour delay or more in some cases on the Atlantic City rail line and many detours on South Jersey bus routes.
AMTRAK says Northeast Corridor service is operating but with delays between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia due to continued storm clean-up and repair work.
The excessive heat warning remains in effect for the Delaware Valley. Philadelphia's Corporation for Aging's heat line is taking calls till midnight at 215-765-9040, to give advice for all ages about dealing with the heat - city health department nurses will be available to talk to callers about heat related medical problem.
