Deadline For Philadelphia Public School Student Transfers is Friday
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Friday is the deadline for Philadelphia public school students to apply for a transfer to a school outside their own neighborhood.
The school district extended its original November 2nd transfer deadline until this Friday, November 30th. Students who want to transfer out of their neighborhood school next year have to apply by Friday.
But complicating the matter is that the district hasn't yet named the dozens of schools it may be permanently closing next year (see related story). Philadelphia schools superintendent William Hite says those schools will be identified next month.
"We plan to do that within the next two weeks," Hite told KYW Newsradio today, "and present that information to the SRC probably sometime in mid-December."
In the meantime, the Philadelphia School Partnership says its web site, greatphillyschools.org, can help parents who are considering transfers compare their options.
