Deadline For New Jersey Vote Tally Extended
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The vote tallies for November's elections in New Jersey will be finalized later than usual this year.
The state Division on Elections has granted 14 counties until next week to finish counting ballots.
The counties asked for extra time largely because of an unusual volume of provisional, emailed and faxed ballots. People displaced by Superstorm Sandy were given additional ways to vote, but that means more work for elections officials.
The state plans to certify election results by Dec. 11, a week later than originally planned.
The delay also means a longer wait to see who won some close local elections around the state.
