Data Shows New Jersey Has Lowest Percentage Of Divorced Residents In The Nation
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Want to know the secret to staying married? You might want to ask someone from New Jersey.
According to recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau, just 9.1% of Garden State residents are divorced, the lowest percentage of any state in the country. Nearly 52% are married.
Experts say this is because New Jerseyians have fewer risk factors for divorce than those in many other states. Data shows that NJ residents tended to wait to marry until they were older and had achieved a higher level of education. New Jersey is also among the wealthier states.
States with the highest percentage of divorces include many in the southern and western part of the country. Nevada had the highest rate of divorce at 14.7%.
