Danny Watkins Will Get Start Sunday For Eagles
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Eagles' struggles on the offensive line have been well documented during this ugly 1-3 start to the season. To that effect, head coach Andy Reid today confirmed that rookie first-round pick Danny Watkins is taking first team reps at right guard with an eye towards starting Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
"Danny was working in there last week, too," Reid said, "so we're going to give him a little bit more to do this week and see how he does with it."
Watkins was the starter at right guard in training camp, but his struggles led to the Eagles signing Kyle DeVan off the waiver wire as the regular season approached and plugging him into the starting lineup.
But Reid says Watkins has been making progress.
"He's been with (offensive line coach) Howard (Mudd), just going over all the small things it takes to play. So we've eased him back in here the last couple of weeks and he's handled it well and done well."
Watkins has yet to play this season; he has been deactivated for all but one game.
In other Eagles news, defensive end Trent Cole and tackle Jason Peters are not practicing today. Cole has a calf strain and Peters a hamstring strain. Reid says it will be a struggle for either player to go this weekend against the Bills.
