Cyber Monday Shopping In High Gear
By technology editor Ian Bush
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Today is Cyber Monday, and whether you're engaged in "couch commerce" or "office chair commerce," you're part of what's expected to be the biggest online shopping day of the year.
E-mail inboxes are overflowing with come-ons, and banner ads have been beckoning with promises of deep discounts.
"We're also seeing about three in four of us will use a mobile device to at least do some research, if not make a purchase," says Google technologist Daniel Sieberg, looking at online shopping searches in the Philadelphia area.
The top two shopping searches, he notes, are "Beats by Dre" headphones, and the Barbie Dreamhouse.
Gaming systems are also in the top ten.
"Sony PS4 and Xbox One; tablets; Ugg boots; North Face jackets," Sieberg says.
Some other hot deals: Amazon is dropping the price of its Kindle Fire HDX to below $180; Newegg has a Samsung Windows 8 touchscreen laptop for $650; and you can pick up a $100 iTunes gift card at BestBuy.com for $85.
