Volunteers Cut Their Long Ponytails For Good Cause

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The gym at a Philadelphia charter school was turned into a hair salon today.
Twelve volunteers with long ponytails had their hair cut to benefit cancer patients.
Three cutting stations were set up in the gym at the Philadelphia Performing Art East Campus on South Broad Street.
Gianna Amabile is one of those who had her lovely locks cut for female cancer patients who lose their hair.
"I wanted it cut because I don't like that it's so knotty and how long it is."
Her mom, Janay Amabile, a professional hair dresser, was wielding the scissors. But also had a reason for being here.
"My mom had cancer, so she used a similar service and was able to get a wig, and it just boosted her confidence so much at a time when she was so upset. And I think Gianna remembers a lot of that, so I think it was a nice way for us be able to both contribute and kind of help somebody else that may be going through the same process."
At least eight inches was cut from each head, and the hair will be made into wigs and given free to recovering cancer patients.
