State Of Emergency Remains In Effect In Cumberland County
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A State of Emergency remains in effect for Cumberland County, New Jersey this morning after a historic day of rainfall caused widespread flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties ending at 11:31 am.
Cumberland County officials say a number of roads were deemed impassable Sunday. Intense flooding have closed roadways and bridges throughout the western half of Cumberland County. Public Works Director Donald Olbrich said the following roads have been closed due to bridge wash-outs:
Hopewell Township:
Diamond Road is closed between Roadstown Rd. and Academy Road; Barretts Run Road is closed between Columbia and Moore's Corner.
Upper Deerfield Township:
Parsonage Road is closed in the area of Station 32 Firehouse; Harmony Road between Columbia Highway and John Dare Road is closed because of flooding.
According to officials, there were also reports of a tree down on Rt. 640 in Upper Deerfield. Olbrich warned residents to avoid driving today until the situation becomes safer.
Mayor Linda DuBois of Pittsgrove Township (Salem County) also announced a State of Emergency. Evacuations are being reported in progress in several locations in Salem and Cumberland County in anticipation of high tide.
Authorities urge commuters to take necessary precautions when traveling.
