Crews Work To Repair Broken Water Main In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Crews were working to repair a large water main break that damaged two properties in North Philadelphia.
The 36-inch main broke just before midnight Saturday along Master Street near 27th Street, causing a gaping hole in the road and forcing the closure of the intersection.
Officials said two properties suffered water damage in the basement as a result of the break, but no homes were dealing with any disruption in service or low water pressure.
Neighbors described the scene as a raging river going down the street.
"It was a lot of water. It was like running rapids down here," said neighbor Paul Garrison. "It took the (Philadelphia) Water Department a little while to get here, but eventually they did. They quarantined off all of the areas around the blocks and it started going down. There were a lot of people out here taking video, pictures, the fire department came. It was crazy."
Officials were not sure how long it would take to repair the broken water main.
