Early Morning Blaze At Condo Building In Old City Displaces Several Residents

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)— Fire forced residents of an Old City condo building out of their homes and into the below freezing temperatures earlier Tuesday morning

A little before 5 a.m., flames broke out on the fifth floor of the Blackhorse Alley Condos on Letitia Street between 2nd and Front Streets.

"I was asleep and I heard a ruckus above me, in the unit above me, and it seemed like people were running around, banging and shortly after that I heard a young lady in the hallway yelling fire," said resident David Moran.

"These buildings are often connected, even just row houses are connected, so rarely are we ever fighting fire in just one building," said Philadelphia Fire Department Commissioner Adam Thiel.

Officials say one person suffered a minor injury and they were treated on scene. Four others were displaced. The American Red Cross says they are assisting.

Some residents say they didnt hear alarms. Fire officials are looking into those claims

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
