Creative Drink Ideas To Ring In The New Year
By Phran Novelli
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New Year's Eve is a great excuse to enjoy some party drinks and they don't all have to get you drunk. While champagne and classic cocktails are plentiful at parties, even if you're not serving alcohol, there are lots of ways to make holiday beverages festive and fun.
One of the easiest ideas is to serve any clear beverage with frozen fruit in place of ice. You can drop frozen fruit in each glass or a pitcher to make a pretty punch or sangria. Or create fruit stirrers that decorate drinks while keeping them cool by pushing fresh strawberries or cherries onto a straw before freezing. Put one frozen fruit stirrer in each glass, then pour in white wine, sparkling cider, soda or seltzer.
In some countries it's customary to eat 12 grapes at midnight for good luck in every month of the New Year - so why not use cold grapes for drinks you serve at toasting time to celebrate 2012?
