Cops: Driver Who Ran Red Light In Fatal Blvd Crash Was Racing To Hospital To See Father
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a fatal accident on the Roosevelt Boulevard that claimed the lives of two teenagers is related to a robbery and assault that occurred late Thursday night.
Authorities say it was around 12:30 a.m. Friday when an 18-year-old ran a red light at the intersection of the Boulevard and Front, and was struck by a Ford Explorer.
A 17-year-old girl died at the scene and a 19-year-old man, the brother of the driver, died later at the hospital.
The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Maggie Goloff and 19-year-old Osman Zeylnov.
Police say a preliminary investigation found the 18-year-old driver was in a hurry and ran the red light to get to Temple Hospital to see his father who had just been robbed and assaulted while making a food delivery.
Authorities say the 48-year-old man was robbed and struck in the head several times by a gun when attempting to deliver food to the 1900 block of Bristol Street.
Police say the two males fled the scene once they noticed a marked police car driving down the street.
The investigation is ongoing.
