Couples Brave The Cold For Sweetheart Skate In Center City
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Cupid may have needed a jacket on a chilly Valentine's Day evening, but that didn't stop dozens from celebrating the holiday ice skating at Rothman Rink in Dilworth Park.
The Sweetheart Skate was a popular choice for many couples in Center City.
"I was just trying to be romantic," says Matthew Tull.
"He's definitely succeeding," his girlfriend Stephanie adds.
Stephanie seemed to be holding the wall though, more than she was holding Matthew's hand.
"This is the first time for me," she says. "I'm having fun though."
John Reilly was out with his girlfriend Maura Clark and says the weather didn't affect their date:
"It's cold, but it's nice to be with somebody you love and have a good time together."
"And the hot chocolate definitely helps when it's really cold out," adds Maura.
The hot chocolate, as well as flowers, were free indoors, which is where couple Marty Blithe and Kelly McCann were taking a skate break.
"I like the cold weather so outside is a little more enjoyable for me, but I know for her it's probably in here," Marty says.
"I like to skate but it's nice to warm up for a few minutes," says Kelly.
But Stephanie Johler -- who was on a date with her boyfriend Mario Dipreta -- says it didn't feel as cold as it was while on the ice:
"Skating on the rink breaks a sweat, so we're actually pretty warm out here."
With many layers, of course, which all couples said was the key to an enjoyable evening.
