Cory Booker Holds Firm Lead in US Senate Race For Lautenberg's Seat

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- Next week, New Jersey voters will decide on candidates for a special election in October to fill the unexpired US Senate term of the late Frank Lautenberg.
And the latest Quinnipiac University poll suggests that voters already have their minds made up.
The survey of more than 2,000 Garden State voters indicates that Democrats are heavily in favor of Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker, who garnered 54 percent in the poll.
Booker was followed by Congressmen Frank Pallone and Rush Holt, with 17 and 15 percent, respectively. State assembly speaker Sheila Oliver trailed with just five percent.
Only eight percent of Democratic voters remain undecided, compared to 13 percent of Republicans, who give onetime Bogota, NJ mayor Steve Lonegan a 7-to-1 advantage over opponent Alieta Eck.
Looking ahead to the final faceoff, Booker holds a 54-29 percent lead over Lonegan in the Quinnipiac poll.
