Cory Booker Brings Huge Social Media Presence To Senate Race
By Melony Roy
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When he's not shoveling snow, or rescuing a neighbor from a burning building, Cory Booker usually fields service requests and answers questions on social media. Going into the New Jersey Senate special election in October, one of Corey Booker's biggest assets is his nearly 1.4 million Twitter followers.
Newark mayor Cory Booker is among the most popular politicians on Twitter, but will it help or hurt his campaign for U.S. Senate?
Social Media Manager for Ceisler Media & Issue Advocacy, Dennis Feldman says, "I think it will help him because he is so popular among a group of people on social media that are going to be more inclined to mobilize for him much faster than he would have expected, because he was prepared to run in 2014. He's earned this popular favor for being so present online. The work that he has done is unprecedented for sure."
Feldman also says being so personal on his handle is an incredibly cost effective way to communicate with people. Cory Booker will face three other Democrats in the special election.
