Corporate Leaders Hoping To Help Spur Bright Future For Camden, N.J.

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Crime rates have been dropping in the city of Camden, and there's more good news as a major carmaker has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in the city's Gateway District, right next to Campbell's.
Executives and businesspeople gathered today in a conference room at the Campbell's facility to talk about the steps necessary for revitalizing Camden.
Rich Landers, with Campbell's Soup Company, hopes this is the beginning of a growing wave of construction.
"I think we're pleasantly surprised that so many good things have happened," he said. "Problems that seemed insurmountable seem like they're in our rearview mirror now."
Steve Gale, with Subaru of America, says tax breaks are attracting development and bringing jobs -- and keeping jobs -- in the city.
"We believe that the parcels that we will be building on will enable us to grow for the foreseeable future," he noted.
There are also plans for retail and residential construction, plus a plan to eventually connect the Gateway District with the waterfront, making the city more walkable and livable for corporate employees.
