Corbett's First Day As Pa. Governor Is Behind The Scenes
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett was spending his first full day in office in meetings with staff.
Outgoing governor Ed Rendell ended his tenure with two-a-day news conferences, but incoming governor Tom Corbett began his term by staying out of the media glare.
Spokesman Kevin Harley says Corbett began his first full day in office by having breakfast with visiting family members, then meeting with his chief of staff.
Harley says more staff meetings were on tap for the afternoon: "Meetings that he's having with his senior staff level -– director of communications, director of legislative [issues], chief of staff, and some other senior aides to map out his legislative agenda."
Harley says Corbett will meet the press when he has something to announce, and did not feel the need to have a news conference on his first day for the sake of having a news conference.
Corbett's first official action was to order flags in the capitol complex flown at half-staff in honor of a Pennsylvania solider killed in Afghanistan.
