Corbett To Review Funding For Development Projects
HARRISBURG (CBS) - Governor Rendell has authorized over $160 million state dollars for private development projects in Philadelphia during his last three months in office. But with less than a week to go in Rendell's tenure, Governor-elect Tom Corbett may have the final say on many of those projects.
For whatever reason, the Rendell Administration has been playing it close to the vest on this issue, forcing reporters to file a right-to-know request to find out which projects the governor has approved.
Now, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the governor – who had previously indicated Philadelphia would get around $100 million -- has awarded well more than $160 million dollars to the city, including $10 million dollars each for the Barnes Museum and a new Janney Montgomery Scott corporate headquarters. That doesn't include millions more for projects in the suburbs.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that from a separate pot of capital money, Rendell has pledged $42 million for the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard. A spokesman for Governor-elect Corbett vows all projects not under contract will be reviewed.
