Cops: Teen Arrested After Opening Fire On Officers In North Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 16-year-old is charged with a number of offenses after police say he opened fire on officers after they spotted him standing on a North Philadelphia Street with a shotgun by his side.
Police say plain-clothes officers saw the teenager with the weapon as they pulled into the Warnock Apartment Complex at about 5 a.m. Saturday.
They got out of their unmarked car and walked toward the suspect, telling him they were police. That's when authorities say he took off down Cambria Street toward Germantown Avenue and, as he turned the corner, fired once at the cops, who were hot on his heels.
They fired back, but neither they, nor the suspect were wounded. Other officers in a cruiser spotted him on 9th Street, followed, and ordered the young man to stop. Police say he put up a fight, but was quickly handcuffed.
The shotgun, apparently tossed away during the chase, was found in the Fairhill Cemetery.
The suspect is charged with simple assault, assault on police and other offenses.
