Cops: Suspect Killed In Overbrook Home Invasion
By Jenn Bernstein
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a man believed to be an intruder was shot and killed inside an Overbrook home Tuesday night.
It happened on the 5800 block of Wyndale Avenue. Police were called to the house just after 10 p.m.
Inside, they found a 22-year-old resident of the home shot in the leg.
In an upstairs bedroom, officers found another man, dead from a bullet wound to the head.
The resident told police he and his 26-year-old girlfriend were coming home when they interrupted a robbery in progress.
Four to five men were inside, wearing masks, gloves and carrying guns.
"The 22-year-old resident got in a struggle on the second floor with one of the intruders," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "That's when the weapon discharged and the decedent was shot."
Police believe the other intruders escaped through a broken first floor window, and may have jumped in a white van.
A van was recovered about 10 minutes away from the home.
Investigators are looking to see if it's involved in the crime.
They also found two semi-automatic handguns at the scene.
"How those weapons got there and who dropped those weapons, we are not sure at this time," said Chief Inspector Small.
The 26-year-old woman was not injured and is talking with homicide detectives.
The injured resident was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and was last listed in stable condition.
Investigators are still searching for the other three to four men involved.
