Police: Robbery Suspect Shot By Borough Official In Montgomery County

HATBORO, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are investigating after a robbery suspect suffered a gunshot wound in Hatboro, Montgomery County.
Authorities say around 10:18 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to the TD Bank on the 200 block of South York Road after the panic button was pushed.
A robbery was in progress.
First Assistant D.A. Kevin Steele says, "He entered the bank with a note. In the note, he indicated that if he wasn't delivered money he was going to start shooting."
The teller complied, but before police had a chance to respond, a borough official who had been watching outside took off on foot after the fleeing robber.
Steele says, "We are now in the process of investigating the shooting that occurred of the suspect."
The shooting happened less than a mile away at an industrial park off of Westminster Road.
Police say the borough resident and official shot the robbery suspect twice, and held him until police arrived.
Steele says, "There were a number if requests for the suspect to get on the ground. He did not comply with that and he was shot... He then got on the ground."
The suspect was hit in the arm and wrist area and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The pursuit took both suspect and shooter right past the home of Dot and Ed Knight.
Dot says, "As long as he is licensed to carry and he knows what he is doing with that gun, he has a right to do it. And if it stops a bank robber, I say okay."
Police say the suspect is now in custody.
No word on the identity of the suspect or the citizen.
